The View From Inside A Vegetable

It's Halloween, so I'm doing all my work inside a pumpkin today. I went out to find the biggest pumpkin I could, and I managed to drag it back home yesterday. That was hard enough. It took me nearly six hours to hollow it out. Six hours! Not all at once. I took breaks, obviously. And made some pumpkin soup. But there was way too much pumpkin to ever eat, so most of it is still in a big mound in the middle of my kitchen floor.

Anyway, now that it's hollow I've just about managed to crawl inside it, and this is where I'm working today. To be completely honest, the laptop itself isn't inside the pumpkin. It's just next to it. But I'm inside the pumpkin, almost entirely. It's just my hands that stick out one side (to reach the laptop) and I think my backside is sticking out the other side just a little bit.

I've got to say - it's pretty fun being inside a pumpkin. I can think of worse ways to spend the day. One drawback is that it isn't easy to get in and out. If I do this again next year I'll take a bit more time to find a slightly bigger pumpkin. For now I'm kind of stuck until the end of the day, when I'll have to cut through the skin to get out quickly. So, yes, it's a bit of a squeeze in here.

You get used to the smell after a couple of minutes. That's not a problem. Also, if I did this again I'd position the pumpkin first. I'd put it somewhere I can see the TV from. It didn't occur to me that once I was in the pumpkin I wouldn't be able to move. I just didn't think it would be an issue. But it is. I've tried rolling myself into a better location, but it's not going to happen. I think the structural integrity of the pumpkin would be at risk if I pushed that plan too far. So I'm sticking where I am for the moment, and will be here until the end of Halloween, when I will burst out of my pumpkin like a renewed spirit!

This could be a new Halloween tradition...

I don't believe a word of this pumpkin story...do you have any photos to prove it?

I would of course have had photos, but I foolishly didn't take my camera into the pumpkin with me and, as I said, once I was in I couldn't get out. Next time I will definitely arrange for someone to take photos of me.
