This is already all over the blogs of anybody with a connection to writing or the movies, but it's really worth checking it out if you haven't seen it.
David Mamet supposedly wrote a memo in his capacity as producer of TV series 'The Unit', addressing the writers and setting out the basics of writing drama. All in capital letters. I don't mind the capital letters. I just love the advice:
Whether you're writing TV drama, films, books or just a short story for homework, there are many, many great lessons in Mamet's Memo. I plan to read it so many times I know it off by heart. Then I'll sit and rewatch some of his movies: The Spanish Prisoner and Heist are two of my favourites...
